How to Create a Subdomain in cPanel?

Category: Domains & DNS  •  Est. reading time: 2 minutes

A subdomain is a section of your site that lives in front of your main domain, like blog.yourdomain.com or shop.yourdomain.com. It is handy for a store, a staging site, or a separate app, all under your existing domain.

The Steps

  1. Log in to cPanel and open Domains in the Domains section. (On newer cPanel, subdomains are created here with Create A New Domain. On older versions, look for a dedicated Subdomains tool.)
  2. Enter your subdomain as the full address, for example blog.yourdomain.com.
  3. cPanel fills in a document root folder for its files automatically. You can adjust it if needed.
  4. Click Submit or Create.

Good to know: a subdomain gets its own folder on your server, so its files stay separate from your main site. That makes it a safe place to test things.
