Over time, a database can get bloated or a table can develop a glitch that slows your site or throws errors. Optimizing tidies things up and reclaims space. Repairing fixes a table that has become corrupted. phpMyAdmin does both.
The Steps
1. Log in to your cPanel account, and open phpMyAdmin and select your database.

2. In the table list, tick the tables you want to work on, or use Check all.
3. Open the With selected menu.
4. Choose Optimize table to tidy and reclaim space, or Repair table to fix a damaged one.
When to reach for this: if your site is suddenly sluggish or showing a database error, a repair and optimize is a sensible first move. Take a backup first, as always.
