How to create a database in cPanel?

Category: Databases  •  Est. reading time: 2 minutes

If you would rather set up a database by hand instead of using the Wizard, cPanel lets you create the pieces one at a time. This is the manual version, useful when you already have a user and just need a fresh database.

The Steps

  1. Log in to cPanel and open MySQL Databases in the Databases section.
  2. Under Create New Database, enter a name. A short version of your domain keeps it recognizable. cPanel adds a prefix automatically.
  3. Click Create Database.

Your new database exists, but it has no user attached yet. To let your website read and write to it, create a user and add it to the database. Our guides on creating a database user and adding a user with privileges walk through those two steps.

Faster option: the MySQL Database Wizard does all three steps (database, user, privileges) in one flow. Reach for it if you are starting from scratch.
